AgForce Involvement

AgForce Queensland has been involved in cross-industry networks and regional working groups to value add to processes helping producers adopt best management practices (BMPs). Industry group involvement in the Reef Rescue partnership helps balance the economic and productive needs of producers with environmental stewardship expectations.

AgForce project officers have delivered 16 property computer mapping workshops to 116 producers and 16 GPS workshops to 85 producers in the Fitzroy, Burdekin and Burnett Mary catchment areas during early 2009.  The content of these workshops was based on the successful AgForward extension program also delivered by AgForce.

Civil engineer Belinda Bugeja attended a property computer mapping workshop at Home Hill and said the day is the simplest way to get up-to-date property spatial imagery and the latest moratorium map…read more.

Other activities include vital awareness raising activities for producers and the wider community to understand the importance of sustainable land management practices and the link to improved water quality for Great Barrier Reef catchments. In early 2009 , AgForce Reef Rescue project officers attended Beef 2009 Rockhampton,  Agrotrend Bundaberg, AgGrow Emerald, key local shows and the communication team fielded numerous media stories.

Ultimately AgForce aims to develop a statewide BMP framework to help measure the grazing industry’s progress toward the uptake of BMPs and improved environmental sustainability and profitability.
