AgForward Workshops

AgForward provides five workshops essential for all primary producers, land owners and industry groups.

Workshops available are:

• GPS Essentials

• Computer Mapping Essentials

• Vegetation Management Essentials

• Extension Vegetation Management Workshop

• AgForests Essentials

It is recommended that participants complete the workshops in a logical order so the previous workshop's information can be used in the next workshop.  The recommended sequence is:

• GPS Essentials

• Computer Mapping Essentials

• Vegetation Management Essentials and/or AgForests Essentials

Review the workshop calendar to see if AgForward is heading to your location.  If so, download the registration form and send it to the Brisbane office.  If not, download the Expression of Interest form, complete and send it to the Brisbane office.

GPS Essentials:

• One day workshop

• Provides practical training in the use of handheld GPS (Global Positioning System)

• Learn about setting up a GPS correctly and understanding GPS accuracy

• Working with waypoints, tracks and routes

• Measure areas & distances

• Downloading and uploading information into a computer

• AgForward makes available GPS units for those without their own

• Receive a comprehensive workbook

• GPS Pocket Guides, an illustrated booklet of how to use the GPS, are available

• Registrations close one (1) week prior to the workshop date

Computer Mapping Essentials:

• One day workshop

• Covers fundamental computer mapping concepts and principals

• Taught how to display available mapping information

• Generate your own property data

• Present data clearly and effectively using maps

• Property digital data is provided

• Includes satellite images, RE maps and property boundaries

• This data can be used in many mapping programs

• Registrations close two (2) weeks prior to the workshop date

• Restricted to 10 enterprises

Vegetation Management Essentials:

• One day workshop

• Provides the tools needed to understand what you can and can’t clear under the State legislation - Vegetation Management Act 1999

• Landholders receive information on lodging a PMAV and permit

• Help in understanding and validating regional ecosystem maps

• An explanation of exemptions such as fire breaks and fence lines

• Receive the latest RE maps and satellite images of your property

• Receive a comprehensive workbook

• Registrations close two (2) weeks prior to the workshop date

• Restricted to 12 enterprises

Extension Vegetation Management Workshops:

• ‘Abridged’ vegetation management workshop

• 3.5 hour duration

• Condensed version of our full vegetation management workshop

• Purpose is to educate staff about the Vegetation Management Act 1999 and what it means for landholders

• Aimed at other interested parties like regional groups

• Not recommended for landholders

• Contact AgForward to express your group's interest

AgForests Essentials:

• One day field day

• Assists producers who manage, or want to manage their property for native forest timber production (forest practice) in conjunction with grazing, horticulture and cropping (including cane)

• Provides training and support to the timber industry

• Receive a comprehensive workbook containing guides and other information on forest management, forest products & marketing, burning and model contracts for timber sales

• Field Day is free

• Restricted to 25 participants
